Produce more, consume less
Today’s western society is littered with distractions. They are practically everywhere. Our attention is constantly bombarded with the ever-increasing flow of junk designed by media houses to control our behavior through psychology tricks. Most of us are constantly jumping from one thing to another searching for that dopamine hit. It has never been easier to access information. It’s a blessing but also a curse.
However, there is a cure to this. You have to stop and revert this mindless consumption. Stop consuming and start producing. Stop minding other people’s lives and start minding your own business. Start producing and you will make other people follow your life instead.
It’s really hard but it can be done with the help of determination, focus and true grit. Start small and work yourself up. Consistency is the key.
It will be very hard at first. Your mind won’t like it. There is no easy hit, no instant reward. Your mind will try to game you. Try to lure you back into your old habits. You will slide away, you will lose focus, you will feel tired. Pay attention and try to notice when it happens. Take a deep breath, acknowledge it, make a note and get back to work. Keep track of this happening. With time you will be able to improve your focus and concentration. You will be surprised how fast it happens if you are consistent.
Motivation comes from doing, doing comes from starting and starting comes from shifting your energy in the right direction. Don’t listen to your mind, your doubts. Make starting a mechanical action, not emotional.
The important thing is to aim really low in the beginning. Set easy, achievable goals. Go for the quantity first, quality will come later. Don’t try to do right first, but try to do plenty. If something seems overwhelming - break it down into tiny steps. Make a checklist and check it off one by one. Do it by hand and on paper. It leaves you with a greater feeling of accomplishment.
Reward yourself and celebrate the tiny wins. Set a quantity goal and work towards it. Remember that perfection is the enemy of good enough. Rinse and repeat.
Try not to judge yourself or you will quickly get discouraged and give up. Nothing comes for free. Change is hard but it’s totally possible. Just keep your head low, and be deaf and blind to all distractions.
Start with tiny steps and short sessions and gradually increase the ratio. Track your progress and celebrate small wins. Be persistent and remember - change comes faster than you think. You will be surprised.
